Terrace examples – some inspiration for a cozy home

That’s how to create a nice outdoor lounge, or a modern living space, or …

Design ideas for small terraces

In Central Switzerland, in Zug and at the greater Zurich area, where space is limited, good ideas are essential when it comes to designing a terrace. We would like to give you some inspiration here. Even small terraces can be transformed into a cosy living space.

The terrace as an outdoor living space

The floor has a big part to play in how you feel in a place. Remember, you will often be walking barefoot on the terrace. If instead of terrace slabs you simply equip the area close to your home with wooden planks, this will also make your feet feel warm and comfortable.

Extending the living space from the inside to the outside

Ideally a terrace joins the inside and the outside. This is especially true for protected roof terraces or loggias. In order to achieve this in respect of design and lifestyle, it takes more than just a window door without a threshold-level. You will find some suggestions here on our photos.

Weather-protected, roofed areas can be furnished particularly comfortably

A very special residential feeling arises when you create a weather-protected area on the terrace, designed like a living room. A beautiful cabinet on the wall, a bookshelf or even a painting will make you feel at home. A sofa area with soft cushions also supports this atmosphere.

The terrace as a cosy design lounge

It’s the small things, the beautiful vase in noble design, the lanterns or an elegant bonsai tree turn a simple terrace into a sophisticated design lounge. Ideally, there should also be a cupboard on the terrace in which these accessories can be stored quickly and easily.

Plants and trees on the terrace

Plants and trees are one of the most important design elements of a terrace. They provide a shade, protect the view, structure the room – and create a great atmosphere.

Plants can be of different densities, so light protection and privacy protection can be handled very differently. It is important that the larger trees in particular are protected against storms.

Automatic irrigation is highly recommended in most cases. Especially during the hot summer days, potted plants dry out quickly.

The biggest mistake in terrace design

The best terrace ideas are of little use if the basics are lacking. One mistake we see again and again is the absence of room organization. That actually means:

Organize your terrace into individual zones. This is not only true for large terraces, on the contrary. This is especially true for small areas. A well-arranged terrace provides a much greater sense of space than an empty area – even if this may initially be against your intuition.
