Terrace design – Terrace planning and construction from Zug

Relish the clear view – with a beautifully crafted outside area

A terrace is a small garden with huge opportunities

Did you know that it is possible to build a pond onto a terrace, even without a natural ground underneath? That’s only one of many possibilities we have nowadays if it’s all about moving your living space to the outside. Bonsai trees are another opportunity – a very good looking opportunity by the way.

Terrace design demands strong creative dexterity

Precisely because the space of a terrace is often quite limited a experienced and skillful designer is demanded. Most design flaws you cannot see immediately – all the more they pay off later, much to the chagrin of the owner. Therefor you should do a wise planning. Best is to start with a clear zone planning and with the definition of which role each zone should play.

Our Terrace checklist: These 9 points you should consider

  • Geographical orientation of your terrace: Where is the morning sun, which shadows does your terrace offer in the afternoon – and which is the direction the sun sets?
  • Seat trial: Simply take a chair and sit down where you planned your later seating position. How does it feel?
  • Privacy screen: Is your terrace sight protected? Is an additional screening wall needed?
  • Weather protection and wind protection: Where does the wind come from normally? And which is the direction the summer thunderstorms come from usually?
  • Electrical planning: Where do you need a power outlet, where would you like to have some illumination?
  • Visual fixation points: Which are the primary important visual fix points like trees, your house, a pond? It might be useful to illuminate them.
  • Campfire: A fireplace or a garden fire or a barbecue grill often represent the social center of a terrace. People like to flock around a cozy fire.
  • Firewood supply: If you like to integrate a fireplace in your terrace then a firewood supply should be on spot. By the way: A firewood supply can be nicely build as a design element. Have a look at our examples to see it.
  • Planting: Especially on rooftop terraces and in limited spaces greening like Bonsai trees and other small plants make a huge difference.
